Blå Jungfrun National Park is located in Sweden, on the island of Öland. It is situated approximately 30 kilometers south of the city of Kalmar and 20 kilometers north of Borgholm, the island's largest town. Established in 1928, Blå Jungfrun National Park is one of Sweden's oldest national parks. Its history is intertwined with the island's rich cultural heritage. The park's name, "Blue Maiden," is derived from a local legend about a mermaid who transformed into a rock. Parking facilities are available at the park entrance. There are several designated parking areas, with ample space for visitors. Parking fees apply, and specific rules, such as prohibiting overnight parking, may be in place. The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife. Visitors may encounter deer, hares, and foxes, as well as various bird species. The island's coastal waters are also a popular habitat for seals and porpoises. The park's flora is characterized by its coastal location and sandy soils. Common plant species include pine, spruce, and juniper trees, as well as heather, lingonberries, and blueberries. The park is also known for its unique dune vegetation, which is adapted to the harsh conditions of the shoreline. Blå Jungfrun National Park offers several notable features. The highest point on the island, Högholmen, provides panoramic views of the surrounding area. The park is also home to several lakes, including the picturesque Blå Jungfrun Lake. Additionally, visitors can explore the ruins of ancient windmills, which offer a glimpse into the island's historical past. Public transport is available to reach Blå Jungfrun National Park. Buses connect Kalmar and Borgholm to the park, with regular services throughout the year. Visitors can also choose to travel by ferry to Öland and then take a bus or taxi to the park.
