The park is situated approximately 30 kilometers northwest of the city of Kalmar and 80 kilometers south of Linköping. Nearby towns include Vimmerby, Mönsterås, and Emmaboda. Established in 1928, Norra Kvill National Park is one of Sweden's oldest national parks. The park's history is closely tied to the surrounding forests, which have been managed for centuries. In the early 20th century, concerns arose about the decline of old-growth forests in the region, leading to the establishment of the park to protect these valuable ecosystems. Parking facilities are available at the park's main entrance, offering a designated parking area with ample space for visitors. There are no specific rules or fees associated with parking. Norra Kvill National Park is home to a diverse range of native wildlife species. Visitors may encounter red deer, roe deer, moose, wild boar, and hares. The park is also known for its birdlife, including species such as the capercaillie, black grouse, and various owls. Additionally, the park supports a population of pine martens, which are relatively rare in Sweden. The native flora of Norra Kvill National Park is dominated by coniferous forests, primarily consisting of Scots pine and Norway spruce. Other common tree species include birch, alder, and aspen. The park also features areas of mixed forests and heathlands. Notable plant species include bilberry, lingonberry, and cloudberry. The park boasts several notable features and landmarks. The highest point within the park is Kvillhöjden, reaching an elevation of 265 meters. The park is also home to the Kvillån River, which flows through the park and offers scenic walking trails. Additionally, there are several lakes within the park, including Stora Kvillan and Lilla Kvillan. Public transport is available to reach Norra Kvill National Park. Visitors can take a train to Kalmar and then transfer to a bus that goes to the park. Alternatively, it is possible to drive to the park, with several roads leading to the main entrance.
