Shey Phoksundo National Park is located in the Dolpa district of Nepal, in the Karnali Province. Nearby cities and towns include Jumla, Dolpo, and Phoksundo. The park was established in 1984 and is known for its pristine natural beauty. Parking facilities are available at the park entrance, with ample space for visitors. There are no specific rules or fees for parking. The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including Himalayan black bears, snow leopards, red pandas, musk deer, and Himalayan tahr. Bird enthusiasts will appreciate the opportunity to spot Himalayan monals, lammergeiers, and snow cock. The park also supports a variety of plant life, with common species including rhododendrons, pines, birches, and juniper trees. Unique vegetation includes alpine meadows and glacial moraines. Notable features of the park include Shey Phoksundo Lake, one of the deepest lakes in the world, and the Shey Phoksundo Peak, a majestic mountain rising above the lake. Other landmarks include the Phoksundo Monastery, a historic Buddhist monastery, and the Kagmara La Pass, a scenic mountain pass offering breathtaking views. Public transport is available to get to the park, with regular buses operating from Jumla to Dolpo. From Dolpo, visitors can hire private vehicles or trek to the park.
