The park's name is derived from the two major rivers that flow through it: the Murray and the Sunset. Visitors to the park can find ample parking facilities, with multiple parking areas located throughout the park. There are no specific fees for parking, and the areas are generally well-maintained. Murray-Sunset National Park is home to a diverse range of native wildlife, including kangaroos, emus, wombats, and koalas. The park is also a popular spot for birdwatching, with over 230 species having been recorded. One of the most notable animals in the park is the Mallee emu-wren, a small, elusive bird that is endemic to the Mallee region. The park's native flora is characterized by its resilience to arid conditions. Common plant species include mallee eucalypts, acacia trees, and various shrubs. The park is also home to unique vegetation, such as the rare Mallee cress and the endangered Mallee emu-wren daisy. Murray-Sunset National Park boasts several notable features, including the Sunset Cliffs, a series of sandstone cliffs that offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The park is also home to the Pink Lakes, a series of salt lakes that can turn pink due to the presence of algae. While public transport options to the park are limited, visitors can drive or hire a car from nearby towns.
