Khaptad National Park is located in the Far Western Development Region of Nepal, specifically in the Bajura, Doti, and Dadeldhura districts. It is situated approximately 300 kilometers west of Kathmandu. Nearby cities and towns include Bajura, Doti, Dadeldhura, and Silgara. Established in 1973, Khaptad National Park is one of the oldest national parks in Nepal. It was initially a hunting reserve before being declared a national park. The park has a rich historical significance, as it was once a pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists. Parking facilities are available at the park's entrance, with ample space for vehicles. There are no specific rules or fees associated with parking. Khaptad National Park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including leopards, black bears, Himalayan black deer, and Himalayan tahr. The park is also known for its birdlife, with species such as the Himalayan monal, the lammergeier, and the blood pheasant. The park boasts a variety of flora, including pine forests, rhododendron forests, and oak forests. Common plant species include sal, chir pine, and Himalayan oak. Unique vegetation includes the endangered Khaptad oak and the rare Himalayan yew. Notable features of Khaptad National Park include the Khaptad Lake, a sacred lake surrounded by dense forests.
