Forillon National Park is located in the Gaspé Peninsula of Quebec, Canada. Situated at the eastern tip of the peninsula, the park extends into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The nearby town of Gaspé is just 30 kilometers away, offering amenities and access to the park. Established in 1970, Forillon was the first national park in Quebec. The park was created to protect the region's rich natural beauty and diverse ecosystems. Its history includes cultural sites that reflect the lives of the Indigenous Mi’kmaq people, as well as the settlers who came later. Forillon National Park offers ample parking facilities, with several parking areas located at trailheads, beaches, and visitor centers. Visitors are required to purchase a park pass, but there are no additional parking fees. Wildlife is abundant in the park, with black bears, moose, and white-tailed deer commonly seen. Forillon is also a prime location for whale watching, particularly for species like minke whales and humpback whales. Seals are often spotted along the shorelines. Bird species such as puffins, seabirds, and peregrine falcons make the park a birdwatcher's paradise. The park's flora is varied, including boreal forests, meadows, and coastal vegetation. Spruce, fir, and maple trees dominate the forests, while wildflowers and shrubs blanket the meadows. The coastline features salt marshes and rocky cliffs with a unique variety of plant life. Notable landmarks in Forillon include Cap Gaspé, where visitors can hike to the iconic lighthouse perched atop the cliffs, and the Grande-Grave heritage site, which showcases the region's fishing history. The park also offers beautiful beaches and scenic coastal trails. Public transportation to the park is limited, so driving is the most common way to access Forillon. However, shuttle services from Gaspé are sometimes available during peak seasons.
