Eucla National Park is located in the southeastern corner of Western Australia, near the border with South Australia. It lies in the vast, arid expanse of the Nullarbor Plain, one of the most remote and sparsely populated areas in Australia. The closest town to the park is Eucla, situated just 12 kilometers west of the park's entrance, while other nearby settlements include Mundrabilla and Madura. Established in 1971, Eucla National Park was created to protect the unique natural and historical features of the region. The area is steeped in history, particularly for its role in Australia's early telegraph system. Remnants of the old Eucla Telegraph Station, now partially buried by shifting sands, are one of the park’s most famous landmarks. Parking facilities within the park are basic, reflecting its remote location. There are a few small, designated parking areas near major landmarks, but no formal fees are charged for parking. Visitors are advised to park only in designated areas to protect the fragile environment. Eucla National Park is home to a variety of wildlife, including kangaroos, emus, and dingoes. Birdwatchers can spot species such as the wedge-tailed eagle and the Nullarbor quail-thrush, both of which are unique to the region. The flora of the park consists of hardy vegetation adapted to the dry conditions of the Nullarbor Plain. Saltbush, bluebush, and spinifex grass dominate the landscape, along with patches of low eucalypt woodlands. Notable features in Eucla National Park include the dramatic limestone cliffs of the Bunda Cliffs, as well as sweeping sand dunes and salt lakes. Public transport options are extremely limited, and visitors typically reach the park by private vehicle along the Eyre Highway.
