Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve of Canada is located in the province of Quebec, along the northern shores of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The park consists of over 1,000 islands and islets, spread across the coastline, and is closest to the town of Havre-Saint-Pierre. It is about 900 kilometers northeast of Quebec City. The park reserve was established in 1984 to protect the unique geological formations and biodiversity found in the region. Its most notable features are the stunning limestone monoliths, which have been sculpted by erosion over thousands of years. These towering rock formations make the archipelago one of the most unique landscapes in Canada. Parking for visitors is available on the mainland, primarily in Havre-Saint-Pierre, where ferries and boat tours depart for the islands. There is no vehicle access to the islands, so parking is limited to mainland facilities, and ferry tickets often include park entry fees. The park is rich in wildlife, particularly marine species such as seals, whales, and seabirds. Notable animals include the Atlantic puffin, the harbor seal, and the occasional sighting of humpback and minke whales. The archipelago is also home to species like black bears and moose on the mainland. The flora of Mingan Archipelago is adapted to the coastal environment. It features boreal forest species like white spruce and balsam fir, as well as coastal plants such as sea rocket, marram grass, and the delicate Mingan thistle, which is endemic to the region. In addition to the famous monoliths, the park's notable features include beaches, sea cliffs, and an abundance of bird colonies. Public transportation is limited, but ferries and boat tours are available from nearby towns, particularly Havre-Saint-Pierre, making it accessible to visitors.
