Glacier National Park of Canada is located in British Columbia, within the Selkirk and Purcell mountain ranges. It lies along the Trans-Canada Highway, with the closest towns being Revelstoke to the west and Golden to the east. Established in 1886, the park holds historical significance as part of Canada's national parks system and was created to protect the rugged mountain landscape and the natural environment surrounding the newly completed Canadian Pacific Railway. It also encompasses Rogers Pass, a vital route through the mountains that has historical and transportation importance. The park offers several parking areas located near popular trailheads and visitor centers, such as the Rogers Pass Discovery Centre. Parking is available throughout the year, although some lots may be closed during the winter season due to heavy snowfall. There are no additional parking fees beyond the park’s entrance fee. Glacier National Park is known for its abundant wildlife, including grizzly bears, black bears, mountain goats, wolverines, and woodland caribou. Birdwatchers can spot species like the golden eagle and the white-tailed ptarmigan. The park’s diverse ecosystems make it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The park's flora is equally impressive, with forests dominated by western red cedar, western hemlock, and Engelmann spruce at lower elevations. The subalpine and alpine meadows bloom with vibrant wildflowers in summer, including glacier lilies and lupines. Notable features of the park include the expansive Illecillewaet Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in the region, and the dramatic Rogers Pass, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. The park also features steep valleys, cascading waterfalls, and dense forests. There is no direct public transportation to Glacier National Park, but the Trans-Canada Highway makes it easily accessible by car. Visitors can travel from nearby towns like Revelstoke and Golden for easy access to the park.
