Mebbin National Park is located in northern New South Wales, Australia, near the border with Queensland. It lies approximately 40 kilometers northwest of Murwillumbah and about 100 kilometers south of Brisbane. The park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, which protects some of the oldest ecosystems in the world. Nearby towns include Uki and Tyalgum. Mebbin National Park was established in 1999 to protect the region’s rich biodiversity and cultural heritage. It forms part of the Tweed Caldera, an ancient volcanic landscape that includes Mount Warning (Wollumbin), a sacred site for the Bundjalung people. The park is an important conservation area, safeguarding both natural habitats and Aboriginal cultural sites. Parking facilities in Mebbin National Park are limited but available at key entry points, including the Byrrill Creek Road entrance. Parking is generally free, but visitors are advised to check for any seasonal changes or specific vehicle restrictions, especially during wet weather when access roads may be affected. The park is home to diverse wildlife, including koalas, red-necked wallabies, and the rare Albert’s lyrebird. Birdwatchers can also spot wedge-tailed eagles and the noisy pitta. Mebbin National Park’s flora is equally remarkable, featuring subtropical rainforests, eucalypt forests, and areas of wet sclerophyll forest. Tree species include hoop pines, brush box, and giant fig trees. The springtime brings vibrant wildflower blooms, adding to the park’s scenic beauty. Key landmarks include the scenic Byrrill Creek, secluded picnic spots, and access to nearby Mount Warning, a prominent feature of the surrounding landscape. Public transport options are limited, with no direct services to the park. Visitors typically drive from nearby towns like Murwillumbah or Uki to access the park via the local road network.
