Fitzgerald River National Park is located in the southern part of Western Australia, between the towns of Bremer Bay and Hopetoun, approximately 420 km southeast of Perth. This expansive park spans over 329,000 hectares and is renowned for its biodiversity. The nearest towns are Hopetoun to the east and Jerramungup to the north, with Bremer Bay further west. Established in 1973, Fitzgerald River National Park was created to protect the region's unique ecosystem. It's part of the UNESCO-recognized Fitzgerald Biosphere, a haven for conservation and ecological research. The park’s rich history is tied to its Aboriginal heritage, as it has been home to the Noongar people for thousands of years. Parking is available at various access points throughout the park, including designated areas at popular locations like Point Ann, East Mount Barren, and Four Mile Beach. While there are no set parking fees, some areas may require a day-use fee, typically around $15 per vehicle, payable at self-service stations. The park is home to a remarkable array of wildlife, with over 200 bird species, 22 mammal species, and several unique reptiles. Notable animals include the endangered western ground parrot, the rare dibbler, and the Australian sea lion along the coastal areas. Fitzgerald River National Park is also known for its vibrant flora. It is one of the most botanically significant regions in Australia, boasting over 1,800 plant species, including many endemic to the area. Notable species include royal hakea, banksias, and bottlebrushes. Landmarks within the park include East and West Mount Barren, the Fitzgerald River, and Point Ann. While public transport is not available directly to the park, visitors can drive from nearby towns or book private tours.
