Blackwood River National Park is located in the southwestern region of Western Australia, within the country of Australia. It lies approximately 300 km south of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. The park is nestled between the towns of Nannup and Bridgetown, with Busselton and Margaret River also nearby, making it accessible from several key regional centers. The park was officially established in 2004 and is part of the larger conservation efforts to protect the region's natural landscapes and biodiversity. It encompasses a portion of the Blackwood River, which has been historically important to Indigenous communities as well as early European settlers. There are several parking areas throughout the park, although specific details about the number of spots or fees vary depending on the area. Most of the parking areas are located near popular hiking trails and picnic spots. There are no entry fees, but some campsites or vehicle access areas may require small fees. Visitors are encouraged to check the latest regulations. The park is home to a variety of native wildlife. Notable species include western grey kangaroos, quokkas, and an array of birdlife such as red-tailed black cockatoos and wedge-tailed eagles. The rich biodiversity also includes reptiles like skinks and geckos. Blackwood River National Park boasts a wide variety of native flora, with jarrah, marri, and karri forests dominating the landscape. The wildflower season, typically between August and November, brings an abundance of native wildflowers like orchids and banksias, adding bursts of color. There is no direct public transport available to the park. However, visitors can travel by bus to nearby towns like Nannup or Bridgetown and access the park via private vehicle. The Blackwood River, the park’s namesake, is its most prominent natural feature, offering scenic views and opportunities for kayaking and canoeing.
