Point-to-Point
Really enjoyed doing this varied Three Castles walk over two days, as It gave us the opportunity to take in some other great little places by straying off on the Offas Dyke LDR and other footpaths. This had its issues though! After visiting the Church of St James the Elder and heading East along the River Trothy, we found the footbridge allowing us to rejoin the main footpath closed as it was being replaced. This meant we had a bit of a dog leg across to Pantycolyn Farm before heading up to White Castle. After here it was across to the Moat at Llandeilo Gresynni. Again the short section leading from the Offas Dyke Path directly to the Moat is non existent (though we found a way through). The Moat and surrounding land was originally owned by the Herburts. St Teilos Church is also worth a visit. Again on leaving the church the path is either unclear, blocked off or overgrown until reaching the MS on the B4233 near Ash Geove. Once back on the main Three Castles Route, its much more clear, though over the two days, we did notice that many of the styles are not dog friendly! With that in mind, for the last section we continued on good paths and tracks past Hilston Park and on to Linthill before dropping back down into Skenfrith to Finish. We even made it back before the heavens opened. Plenty of good pubs in the area on this one and parking was free at both ends on each day.
