Started (& Finished) todays walk from the Kings Arms in All Cannings, Wilts.
From here, we headed east out of the car park up to the road and then down to the All Saints Church which was locked!
We then headed generally NE out to the Kennet and Avon Canal to Englands Bridge and onto Church Farm. We then took in the All Saints Church at Stanton St Bernard which again was locked.
After picking up the White Horse Trail, we headed East across to Alton Barnes, missing out the place of worship but again taking in the Church, which this time was open but extremely disappointing.
From here we headed North on the Ridge way climbing steeply up onto Walkers Hill to take in Adam’s Grave Long Barrow at 262m.
We then took in 270m spot height (which did give a glimpse of the White Horse), the Tumulus at 287m and onto Milk Hill taking in both the 294m & 295m spot heights.
The downside to taking in the numbersis it drags you off a great trail that would have provided much better views.
Now back on the White Horse Trail, we followed the ridge of the Earthworks West onto Tan hill at 271m though to do this we deviated from the main path slightly.
We decided to continue directly west to take on the Trig at 294m. The Trig has been removed completely and nothing marks this high point now!
Picking up the payh we headed South onto Rybury Hill fort at Cliffords Hill along with the 243m spot height.
Rather than following the footpath marked on the map, there is a great path leading off this last peak which handrails the boundary fence off to the “Pit” (dis) before hitting the road.
We crossed and picked up the obvious path leading to the South East of the Long Barrow (which we diid visit.
Its then back over the Canal to pick up the bridleway then footpath past the fishing lakes and back to the pub.
