We started the route at the main car park at Tintern Abbey. Parking here is £5 all day and redeemable against food & drink at the Anchor Inn.
From here we headed up the footpath to Abbey Mill and onto the old wire works bridge over the Wye for a quick photo. Then, we came back out to the road and crossed over, picking up the signs leading to the Furnace. This was the first Blast Furnace in the UK for brass & wire that used a blowing cylinder rather than bellows.
Its not long until you top out on the Angidy Trail but rather than heading back down a similar route, we continued on. Today we picked up the steep rocky path SE from Cross Farm to rejoin our previous route through Ravensnest Wood to The Cot.
Lots of options to choose from when reaching Fedw Wood Car Park. We headed North East and down to Fair Oak Ponds then back up to St Marys Church where many of the Wire Workers were baptised, married and buried. From here is a simple leg back down into Tintern.
