Out and Back
Starting from Cow Green Reservoir Car Park, DL12 0HX, this out and back walk follows a clear track across the open moors, making the route easy to follow in good conditions. Along the way, it takes in East Cow Green Mine, Dubbysike Mine, and Greenhurth Mine, offering a chance to explore one of the most interesting historic mining landscapes in Upper Teesdale.
Although the route itself is straightforward, this is a wild and exposed place where the weather can change very quickly, so it is important to come prepared with suitable clothing and footwear.
Please take extra care throughout the walk. These were once working mine areas and there are still exposed shafts, old workings, ruins, and uneven ground. Much of the site is historically important, with parts of Greenhurth protected, so nothing should be disturbed or climbed on. This is a walk to enjoy slowly, with care and respect for both the landscape and its history.
