The trail begins with a gentle ascent through a mixed forest, offering a serene environment filled with the sounds of birds and rustling leaves. After about 1 km (0.6 miles), you will come across the first significant landmark, the Farschweiler Chapel. This small, historic chapel is a great spot for a short break and some photos.
As you continue, the trail meanders through dense woodlands and open meadows. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as deer, foxes, and a variety of bird species. The flora is equally impressive, with a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees, wildflowers, and ferns lining the path.
Around the 4 km (2.5 miles) mark, you will reach Forsthaus Sternfeld, an old forester's house that dates back to the 19th century. This building is a testament to the region's forestry history and offers a glimpse into the past. There are informational plaques that provide more details about the area's historical significance.
The trail then ascends slightly, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Moselle Valley. This section of the trail is particularly picturesque, with rolling hills and lush greenery.
As you loop back towards Farschweiler, the trail descends gently, making for a relaxing end to your hike. The final 2 km (1.2 miles) take you through more forested areas before you arrive back at the trailhead.
