To reach the trailhead, you can drive or use public transport. If driving, set your GPS to the nearest significant landmark, which is the town of Bad Orb. From there, follow local signage to the trailhead. For public transport, take a train to Wächtersbach station and then a local bus to Bad Orb. The trailhead is a short walk from the bus stop.
The trail begins with a gentle ascent through lush deciduous forests, primarily composed of beech and oak trees. As you progress, the path becomes steeper, leading you up to the Horstberg. This section offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, including the Spessart hills. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as deer and various bird species.
At around the 5 km (3.1 miles) mark, you'll reach the summit of Horstberg. Here, you can take a break and enjoy the scenic vistas. The trail then descends slightly before climbing again towards Pfarrküppel. This area is known for its historical significance, with remnants of ancient settlements and medieval structures. The Pfarrküppel summit, at approximately 8 km (5 miles) into the hike, offers another excellent viewpoint.
The region around Main-Kinzig-Kreis has a rich history dating back to the Roman era. The Pfarrküppel area, in particular, has archaeological sites that provide insight into early human settlements.
