Starting from Osmotherley, the trail initially takes you through charming village streets before leading you into the open countryside. The first section is relatively gentle, allowing you to warm up as you pass through fields and woodlands.
At around 2 km (1.2 miles) into the hike, you'll reach Cod Beck Reservoir. This serene spot is perfect for a short break, offering picturesque views and an opportunity to spot local wildlife such as ducks and herons. The reservoir is a popular spot for fishing and picnicking, so you might encounter other outdoor enthusiasts here.
As you continue, the trail begins to ascend more steeply, gaining elevation as you approach the moorland.
