“Explore Scotland's heart on a 9-day journey blending scenic hikes, historic trains, and rich heritage.”
This fantastic adventure through Scotland’s western Highlands combines hikes along the West Highland Way and the Great Glen Way, two of the UK’s finest long-distance trails, with train journeys along one of the world’s most scenic railway lines, the West Highland Line. The West Highland Line is known for its breathtaking landscapes, diverse scenery, and historical significance. Exploring the area by train and on foot gives a fabulous introduction to the Highlands of Scotland and offers breath-taking scenery. Your trip starts with train journey from easy-to access Glasgow, that leads along the coast and to the shores of Loch Lomond. From there you will take a ferry trip across beautiful Loch Lomond before following the West Highland Way hiking trail, one of the classic long-distance hikes of the world, taking you into the heart of the Highlands. There is time for a day trip to Oban, Scotland’s seafood capital before you cross the most remote parts of the Highlands by train on your way to the Great Glen. A hike into Fort William is followed by a last train journey to the port town of Mallaig. This is the same route followed by the famous Jacobite steam train, known from the Harry Potter movies.
