Climb the sturdy steps for panoramic views over the Vecht valley and surrounding farmland. On clear days, you can see as far as the Sallandse Heuvelrug in the distance. This spot is ideal for a rest and a picnic, with benches nearby.
Nature and Wildlife
The area is part of the Vecht river landscape, known for its biodiversity. Depending on the season, you might encounter grazing sheep or Highland cattle, which help maintain the open character of the meadows. The wetlands attract a variety of waterfowl, and the adjacent forests are home to foxes, badgers, and a rich array of insects and butterflies.
Historical Context
The region around Hessum and Dalfsen has a long history of settlement, with evidence of habitation dating back to prehistoric times.
