Trail Overview
From the starting point, head left onto the O.L. Vrouwestraat and continue to its end. Turn right onto Grondhuttenweg, then just before house number 12, take a right onto Kieftenweg. After 100 meters, veer left onto Katiersweg. Proceed until you reach a woonboerderij (residential farm), then turn left onto a bicycle path leading to the Bentelose es, a traditional Dutch farmland area. An informational board along the path provides insights into the es's history and significance.
Bentelerheide and Hagmolenbeek
As you continue, you'll enter the Bentelerheide, also known as Bentelerhaar, a 30-hectare nature reserve featuring heathland, forests, and natural grasslands. This area is part of the Twickel estate, renowned for its well-preserved landscapes and characteristic black-and-white shuttered farmhouses. Follow the path through this serene environment until you reach the Hagmolenbeek, a gently flowing stream that has been the focus of ecological restoration efforts to enhance biodiversity and improve water quality.
