From Kendal, a short taxi ride or local bus can take you to Gatebeck.### Initial Ascent and Killington Reservoir The trail begins with a gentle ascent, gradually increasing in elevation as you make your way towards Killington Reservoir. This initial section covers about 5 km (3.1 miles) and gains approximately 100 meters (328 feet) in elevation. The reservoir itself is a serene spot, perfect for a short break. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the variety of waterfowl that frequent the area, including herons and kingfishers.### Through the Woodland and Open Fields Continuing from Killington Reservoir, the trail meanders through a mix of woodland and open fields.
