If driving, set your GPS to Sidney Wood Car Park, located near Dunsfold, Surrey. For those using public transport, the nearest train station is Witley, from where you can take a taxi or a local bus to the trailhead.### Trail Navigation For navigation, it’s highly recommended to use the HiiKER app, which provides detailed maps and real-time updates to ensure you stay on track.### Trail Highlights#### Sidney Wood Starting from the car park, you will first enter Sidney Wood. This area is known for its serene atmosphere and dense canopy of trees. Keep an eye out for ancient oak and beech trees, which provide a habitat for a variety of bird species. Approximately 2 km (1.2 miles) into the hike, you’ll come across remnants of the Wey and Arun Canal, a historical waterway that played a significant role in the region's industrial past.#### Westland Copse As you continue, you’ll transition into Westland Copse. This section of the trail is particularly rich in flora, with seasonal wildflowers carpeting the forest floor. Around the 4 km (2.5 miles) mark, you’ll find a small clearing with a picturesque pond, an ideal spot for a short break. The pond attracts various wildlife, including dragonflies and amphibians, making it a great spot for nature observation.#### Gennets Wood The final section of the loop takes you through Gennets Wood. This area is slightly more open, with mixed woodland and occasional meadows. At approximately 6 km (3.7 miles), you’ll pass by an old, abandoned farmstead, offering a glimpse into the rural history of the area. The trail here is well-marked but can be muddy after rain, so appropriate footwear is recommended.### Wildlife and Flora Throughout the hike, you’ll have the opportunity to see a variety of wildlife. Deer are commonly spotted in the early mornings or late afternoons. Birdwatchers will appreciate the diversity of species, including woodpeckers, owls, and various songbirds.
