For those using public transport, the nearest train station is Mansfield, from where you can take a bus or taxi to the visitor center.### Trail Highlights As you embark on the Sherwood Forest Loop, you'll be stepping into a landscape steeped in history and folklore. This ancient forest is famously associated with the legendary Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men. The trail meanders through dense woodlands, open glades, and past ancient oak trees, some of which are over 500 years old.### Major Landmarks - Major Oak: Approximately 2 km (1.2 miles) into the hike, you will encounter the Major Oak, an enormous and ancient oak tree believed to be around 1,000 years old. According to legend, this tree served as a hideout for Robin Hood. The tree is fenced off to protect its roots, but there are plenty of vantage points for photographs.
