The trailhead is conveniently located near the town, making it accessible by both car and public transport. If you're driving, you can park in one of the public car parks in Porthleven. For those using public transport, the nearest train station is in Penzance, from where you can catch a local bus to Porthleven.### Initial Stretch: Porthleven to The LoeThe trail begins in Porthleven, a charming fishing village known for its historic harbor and vibrant culinary scene. As you set off, you'll follow the South West Coast Path, which offers stunning views of the rugged coastline. The first section of the trail takes you along the cliffs, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Keep an eye out for seabirds such as gulls and cormorants, which are commonly seen in this area.### The Loe: A Natural and Historical GemAround 3 km (1.9 miles) into the hike, you'll reach The Loe, the largest natural freshwater lake in Cornwall. The Loe is separated from the sea by a shingle bar known as Loe Bar. This area is steeped in history and folklore; it is said that King Arthur's sword, Excalibur, was thrown into The Loe. The lake and its surrounding woodlands are part of the Penrose Estate, managed by the National Trust. As you walk around The Loe, you'll pass through lush woodlands and open meadows, home to a variety of wildlife including deer, foxes, and numerous bird species.### Midway Point: Penrose EstateAt approximately 7 km (4.3 miles), you'll find yourself in the heart of the Penrose Estate. The estate is also home to Penrose House, a historic mansion that dates back to the 18th century. While the house itself is not open to the public, the surrounding gardens and parkland are perfect for a leisurely stroll.### Return Leg: Loe Bar to PorthlevenAs you make your way back towards Porthleven, you'll cross Loe Bar, a natural shingle barrier that separates The Loe from the sea. This section of the trail can be challenging due to the loose shingle, so take your time and watch your footing. The views from Loe Bar are spectacular, offering a unique perspective of both the lake and the ocean.### Final Stretch: Coastal Path Back to PorthlevenThe final stretch of the trail takes you back along the South West Coast Path towards Porthleven.
