At approximately 1 km (0.6 miles) into the hike, you'll come across the remnants of old mining operations. These ruins are a testament to the area's rich mining history dating back to the late 1800s. Around the 2 km (1.2 miles) mark, you'll reach a scenic overlook that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. This is a great spot to take a break, hydrate, and snap some photos. The elevation gain to this point is about 200 meters (656 feet), so you'll have earned the rest.
The trail is home to a variety of wildlife, including mule deer, black bears, and a plethora of bird species like the mountain bluebird and Steller's jay. Keep your eyes peeled and your camera ready, but remember to maintain a safe distance from any wildlife you encounter.
The trail can be rocky and uneven in places, so sturdy hiking boots are recommended. During the spring and early summer, sections of the trail may be muddy due to snowmelt. Always check the weather forecast before heading out and be prepared for sudden changes in conditions.
