The Reach 11 Recreation Area has a rich history tied to the development of the Central Arizona Project, a massive water diversion project that aimed to bring water from the Colorado River to central and southern Arizona. The area was initially set aside as a flood control basin but has since been transformed into a recreational haven for residents and visitors alike.
Given the desert environment, it's crucial to bring plenty of water, especially during the hotter months. Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are also recommended to protect against the intense sun. The trail is relatively flat and easy to navigate, but sturdy walking shoes are advisable due to the sandy and occasionally rocky terrain.
For those interested in extending their hike, the Reach 11 Recreation Area offers several other interconnected trails, allowing for a more extended exploration of this unique urban park.
