Delicate Arch Trail

Getting There To reach the trailhead, you can drive to Arches National Park, which is located just north of Moab, Utah. From the park entrance, follow the signs to the Wolfe Ranch parking area, which is the starting point for the Delicate Arch Trail.

Trail Overview The trail begins at Wolfe Ranch, a historic homestead that dates back to the late 1800s. As you start your hike, you'll pass by the Wolfe Ranch cabin and a Ute Indian petroglyph panel, which are both worth a brief stop to appreciate the historical significance of the area. The petroglyphs, etched into the rock by the Ute people, depict bighorn sheep and human figures, offering a glimpse into the region's rich cultural history.

The Ascent The initial part of the trail is relatively flat and easy, but it soon transitions into a more challenging ascent. You'll encounter a series of switchbacks that gradually lead you up the slickrock slope. The slickrock can also be slippery, so sturdy hiking boots with good traction are recommended.

Key Landmarks About halfway through the hike, you'll reach a large rock ledge that offers a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. This is a great spot to take a break and soak in the scenery. Continuing on, the trail narrows and follows a rock ledge with a steep drop-off on one side. The Final Stretch As you approach the final stretch, the trail curves around a rock outcrop, and suddenly, Delicate Arch comes into view. This iconic natural arch stands 18 meters (60 feet) tall and 15 meters (50 feet) wide, and it is one of the most photographed landmarks in the United States. The arch is perched on the edge of a sandstone bowl, creating a dramatic and picturesque setting.
