The Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk is a magnificent 73 kilometre long-distance looped trail that starts and ends in North Maleny near Lake Baroon, in the Blackall Range, Queensland. The Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk is graded as Medium, is best walked between March and October and is usually completed in 2 - 4 days. For information on how we grade trails, please click here, and caution is advised on trail times as this depends on multiple variables. For more info, click here. The Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk crosses the Blackall Range over undulating ever-changing terrain; bushwalk through dense rainforest and sweeping eucalypt forest and cool down beside waterfalls and rock pools, then stop and enjoy the views over the vast canopy. Camping is available to those taking on the whole trail with three designated campsites with basic facilities on route, with the Thilba Thalba Walkers’ Camp being a favourite among many. Please note that permits are required for camping in all Queensland national parks and reserves so book in advance to avoid disappointment. https://qpws.usedirect.com/qpws/. Other accommodation options are available nearby. Be sure to check your route planner or trail map and book in advance wherever possible. The Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk is well-maintained and easy to follow, and can be cut into short routes to make it more accessible to anyone looking for day hikes or family friendly trails, although it should be noted that dogs are not allowed on this Great Walk. If walking in a group parking is available at either end, however if concerned about the safety of your vehicles, use public transport or a taxi to and from the trail head.
