This track is found in the Green Mountains area of Lamington National Park, about 75 miles south of Brisbane and 90 minutes from the Gold Coast. It is on the western side of the Lamington Plateau and is 30 miles from the rural town of Canungra in the Scenic Rim region of Queensland. This national park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area and as such, it has many rare and threatened native species plus ongoing rock formations and lots of evolutionary history. The track starts at the Python Rock and Morans Falls trailhead which is on Lamington National Park Road, 3 miles from the entrance to the park. There is a free car park at the trailhead, but be aware this is a popular area so it can be busy, especially at weekends and holidays. There is no public transport to the park so a car is necessary or there are tours departing from Brisbane otherwise. An out-and-back trail of 3 miles, it leads through lush tropical rainforest with brush box, twisted vines, figs and the native booyong trees; these can grow up to 45 m in height and form amazing trunk buttresses. At the constructed Moran Falls Lookout you can see the water plunging 80 m into Morans Gorge down below. These falls fluctuate greatly depending on the season; in the drier months, they may just be a trickle, and after heavy rain a torrent. Further on, Morans Clearing Lookout gives sweeping views over the Albert River Valley with the Mounts of Barney and Lindsey in the distance. Here was the first mountain home of the O’Reilly brothers, founders of the O’Reilly Rainforest Retreat. This hike can be completed in around 2 hours, although caution is advised on trail times as this depends on multiple variables. The toilet facilities here are also accessible for wheelchairs. Dogs are not permitted in the National Park due to conservation measures..
