A 31 km trail in the Matukituki Valley in Mount Aspiring National Park, the trailhead is at Raspberry Flat Carpark, an hours drive west of Wanaka. It is a set-off point for many other trails in the park and the first section of this hike is up to the popular Aspiring Hut, (this is also the West Matukituki Track) and it is relatively easy going. After passing Aspiring Hut though the trail begins to get quite steep and rather challenging, with uphill climbs and rocky sections. It is unadvisable to deviate from the trail. This is a linear trail and at the end of it there is a hut with 10 beds, the Liverpool Hut, at 1100 m of altitude. You will need to reserve a place for the night beforehan. Hut booking required on this trail, please visit here for more information. The hike will take between 5 and 7 hours although caution is advised on trail times as this depends on multiple variables. For more info, click here. Although doable for very fit hikers in one day, it is strongly advised to stop over the night at the Liverpool Hut before heading back down the valley. Graded as an advanced track, for information on how we grade trails, please click here. Dogs are not permitted in the National Park.
