Boott Spur Loop

### Getting to the Trailhead

To reach the trailhead, hikers can drive to Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, situated on NH Route 16. This is the most common starting point for those attempting the Boott Spur Loop. ### The Hike

The journey begins at the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, where hikers will find the Tuckerman Ravine Trail. After approximately 3.6 kilometers (2.2 miles), you'll reach the Hermit Lake Shelters, a good spot to rest and check your gear before the ascent becomes steeper.

Continuing on the Tuckerman Ravine Trail, the path steepens significantly as you approach the headwall of the ravine. This section is particularly strenuous, with rocky steps and some scrambling required. Upon reaching the top of the headwall, about 5.8 kilometers (3.6 miles) from the start, you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding White Mountains.

From here, the trail diverges onto the Boott Spur Link, which leads to the Boott Spur Trail. This section is characterized by alpine vegetation and offers panoramic vistas. The Boott Spur Trail will take you to the summit of Boott Spur, a prominent peak on the southern shoulder of Mount Washington, standing at an elevation of 1,664 meters (5,459 feet).

As you traverse the ridge, you'll encounter the Davis Path intersection. This is a significant landmark because it marks the beginning of the loop portion of the hike. The Davis Path is steeped in history, originally cut in 1845 as a bridle path and is one of the oldest trails in the White Mountains.

Continuing the loop, you'll eventually connect with the Lawn Cutoff Trail, which descends to the Lawn area, a relatively flat section that provides a brief respite from the otherwise rugged terrain. The trail then meets up with the Lion Head Trail, which will lead you back down towards Tuckerman Ravine and eventually to the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center.
