For those who like a challenge, this trail ascends and descends 4 mountain peaks over a total distance of 10km. With an elevation gain of about 514m, it is an excellent trail for those looking to push their hiking experience or seeking a lesser-known hiking trail. The views over Dublin and over towards the Wicklow mountains are a particular treat.
On the route, you will cross boarders into Military-owned land. On occasion, they may be using the land for training purposes. Please check local signage for information on this.
The looped route can be done in either direction, but either way you go, it is advised that you wear above the ankle waterproof boots (and possibly gators) as the route is prone to being muddy, even on dry days.
The trail is not well marked, so it is not recommended for beginners, unless you have an experienced and confident hiker with you.
Dogs are not allow on this trail and it is not recommended for children or strollers. Parking is available off the main road and is free.
