The Lough Key Nature Trail, near Rockingham, County Roscommon, Ireland, is an easy 8km loop suitable for all skill levels. Predominantly flat forest and woodland paths, the trail is dog friendly and circles Lough Key Forest Park. The route crosses rivers, boardwalks and takes in Drummans Island, following the water’s edge of Lough Key with scenic views of McDermott Castle – there’s even a Bog Garden and plenty of wildlife to spot on the way. The park’s visitor centre offers car parking (chargeable), toilets and a lakeside café, plus the chance to take up other family friendly activities such as cycling and zip-line adventures.
