In the west of Ireland in northern Connemara, take to the beautifully rugged shoreline of Killary Harbour on the Fjord Famine Walk. Follow the wild and rustic coastline of the fjord, with its dramatic mountainous backdrop, that historically served as the relief road during the Great Irish Famine. Today it forms the natural border between the counties Galway and Mayo and offers a flat, linear 6km trail suitable for all ages. The trail passes the Killary Sheep Farm with beautiful scenery in both directions and is predominantly rocky trail, small road with some boggy sections which means waterproof boots are recommended.
Find the small village of Leenaun nearby, home to The Sheep and Wool Centre with café and amenities or take to the fjord on a local boat tour.
