  • Healthcare is marked along the route to assist you in creating a plan encase things go wrong. It’s very important to remember that our list may not be definitive, but, particularly for non-urgent injuries, it may help you make a plan. It’s always best to contact the local emergency services if you are having a problem.

  • Towns are convenient places along the trail to resupply and recharge yourself. Towns can vary in size so it can be worth checking the other amenities we have to see if the services you require are available, or failing that, check other sources.

  • Quite often, the reason many trails exist is the history related to the route. Be it as simple as ancient earthen mounds, or more recent war memorials; we have marked many historical points of interest along the trail. We use OSM data combined with our research and knowledge, and that of our community to gather this information.

  • Water marked on the map are both Taps/faucets where you an get public access to freshwater, and freshwater sources such as rivers or streams. Freshwater sources are marked where it passes close to the trail, not necessarily the most accessible point. Always appropriately filter water, so you are sure it is safe to drink.

  • Pubs along the trail can be one of the best ways to understand better what life is like for the locals near the trail. We scour sources like open street maps, our knowledge, and submissions by the Hiiker community to add the pubs that are near the trail.

  • Transport Stations are most often large stations or regional hubs where you can get transportations to several different destinations. They are both train stations and bus stations. These locations can be convenient to get you back to airports.

  • Shelters represent several different types of locations along the trail. Quite often, they are Adirondack style shelters, Bothies, or Alpine Huts. The goal of shelters is to provide you with places where you can gain shelter from the elements. A small selection of shelters, for example, could be as simple as a bus stop that has a roof.
