Loop
โEmbark on a diverse 15-kilometer loop at Big Shoals State Park, exploring lush forests and historic rapids.โ
Starting your adventure near Hamilton County, Florida, the Big Shoals State Park Loop spans approximately 15 kilometers (around 9.3 miles) with virtually no elevation gain, making it an accessible yet engaging hike for those looking to explore the natural beauty of the region. The trailhead is conveniently located near the intersection of SE 94th Street and SE 81st Drive, just a short drive from White Springs.
One of the most significant landmarks along the trail is the Big Shoals rapids, the largest whitewater rapids in Florida. Located approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) into the hike, the rapids are a must-see, especially after a period of heavy rain when the water flow is at its peak. The sound of rushing water and the sight of the turbulent river provide a dramatic contrast to the otherwise tranquil surroundings.
