Starting near the charming village of Middleton in Teesdale, the River Tees and High Force Loop is a captivating 17 km (10.5 miles) journey through the picturesque landscapes of County Durham, England. With an elevation gain of approximately 200 meters (656 feet), this loop trail is rated as medium difficulty, making it suitable for moderately experienced hikers.
High Force Waterfall (Approx. 7 km / 4.3 miles in): Continuing along the trail, you'll reach High Force, one of England's most impressive waterfalls. Plunging 21 meters (69 feet) into a plunge pool below, High Force is a dramatic sight, especially after heavy rainfall. There are viewing platforms that offer excellent photo opportunities.
Forest and Moorland (Approx. 10 km / 6.2 miles in): After High Force, the trail takes you through dense forests and open moorlands. The elevation gain here is gradual, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. This section is particularly beautiful in autumn when the leaves change color.
