Wungong Gorge Walk is roughly 5km south of Armadale, in the Darling Downs section of southern Perth. There are trains from the city centre to Armadale and a bus service that runs near to the trailhead which is 200 m from the corner of Rails Crescent and the South Western Highway parking is available here, although there are no facilities. An out-and-back trail of 10km, it follows the Wungong Brook upstream, leading through a very scenic valley. This path, on the northern section of Wungong Gorge, is flat and family-friendly with some open grasslands and stunning views. The terrain is mainly dirt tracks. There is an old granite quarry and dramatic rocky outcrops to discover along the way and the path leads to the lower parking area of Wungong Dam on Admiral Road. Here there are toilet facilities as well as additional trails, some of which are rather challenging and steep. One easy add-on to the trial is to go up to the dam. Dogs are allowed on this trail, on a leash, (but not at the dam or surrounding picnic areas). The trail is not signposted,so it is recommended to have a map.Return is via the same route. The trail is graded as being Medium. For information on how we grade trails, please click here. It can be completed in approximately an hour and a half although caution is advised on trail times as this depends on multiple variables. For more info, click here. The trail is popular with bird watchers, hikers, bikers and horseback riders and it can be made into a more challenging loop trail but this is not for youngsters as it is hard with steep, rocky tracks. It is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs due to the terrain and the steeper sections.
