This circuit trail follows the Whistlepipe Gully and is found in the Mundy Regional Park, on the outskirts of Lesmurdie, in the Perth Hills. It is a short track, under 2 miles that climb up one side of the creek before looping back and coming down on the other side and there are many rapids and water pools along the way. Whistlepipe Gully flows along the side of a large granite rock formation and really comes alive after a few days of rain. Near the falls there is a great viewpoint over the Swan Coastal plain, with the city of Perth in the distance. On the trail, look out for the remains of a demolished house which once spanned the falls in the 60s. Unfortunately, it was constructed without proper planning permission so had to be demolished, but its ruins still stand! The best time to visit this little trail is either June to September when the creeks are flowing well after the rains or in the springtime when the beautiful wildflowers are in bloom. The summertime here is hot and dry, so if hiking at this time, take plenty of water and be vigilant for snakes on the track.Only 18 miles east of Perth, this trail is popular with locals and visitors alike. Although not suitable for wheelchairs, due to the steep uphills and loose gravel track, it is a family-friendly trail and dogs are welcome too. To get to Whistlepipe Gully from Roe Hwy take the Welshpool Road East exit and then turn left onto Lewis Road. There is a car park at the end here with space for about a dozen vehicles and the trail begins at the white gates. There are no toilet facilities on this trail. This trail is graded as Medium. For information on how we grade trails, please click here. It can be completed in under an hour although caution is advised on trail times as this depends on multiple variables.
