Starting your adventure near Okanogan County, Washington, the Foggy Dew Creek, Summit, and Sunrise Lake Loop Trail is a captivating 29 km (18 miles) journey with an elevation gain of approximately 1900 meters (6234 feet). This loop trail is rated as medium difficulty, making it suitable for hikers with some experience and a good level of fitness.### Getting There To reach the trailhead, you can drive or use public transportation. If driving, head towards the nearest significant landmark, the town of Twisp, Washington. From Twisp, take Twisp River Road west for about 10 miles (16 km) until you reach Forest Road 4430. Follow this road for another 7 miles (11 km) to the Foggy Dew Campground, where the trailhead is located. Public transport options are limited, so driving is the most convenient way to access the trailhead.### Trail Overview The trail begins at the Foggy Dew Campground, immediately immersing you in a lush forest setting. The first section of the trail follows Foggy Dew Creek, offering a gentle ascent through dense woods and alongside the babbling creek. After approximately 4 km (2.5 miles), you will reach the first significant landmark, Foggy Dew Falls, a picturesque waterfall that provides a perfect spot for a short break and photo opportunity.### Climbing to the Summit Continuing on, the trail becomes steeper as you ascend towards the summit. Over the next 6 km (3.7 miles), you will gain significant elevation, transitioning from forested areas to more open alpine meadows. Keep an eye out for wildflowers in the spring and summer months, as well as occasional sightings of deer and other wildlife. The summit offers panoramic views of the surrounding North Cascades, making the challenging climb well worth the effort.### Sunrise Lake From the summit, the trail descends towards Sunrise Lake, located about 5 km (3.1 miles) from the peak. This serene alpine lake is an ideal spot for a longer rest or even a picnic. The crystal-clear waters and the tranquil environment provide a stark contrast to the strenuous climb you’ve just completed.### Looping Back After enjoying Sunrise Lake, the trail loops back towards the starting point. This section is approximately 14 km (8.7 miles) and features a mix of gentle descents and flat stretches. As you make your way back, you’ll pass through more meadows and forested areas, with occasional views of the surrounding peaks. Be sure to stay on the marked trail and use navigation tools like HiiKER to ensure you stay on course.### Historical Significance The region around Okanogan County has a rich history, with roots tracing back to Native American tribes who originally inhabited the area.
