If driving, head towards the Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park, specifically the Red Town Trailhead, which is the nearest significant landmark. For those using public transport, the nearest bus stop is at Newcastle Golf Club Road & 155th Avenue SE, from where you can either walk or arrange a short ride to the trailhead.### Trail Overview The loop begins with a gentle ascent through dense forest, where you'll be surrounded by towering Douglas firs and western red cedars. The initial part of the trail is well-marked and offers a serene introduction to the hike. As you progress, the trail becomes steeper, leading you towards Wilderness Peak.### Wilderness Peak At around 3 km (1.9 miles) into the hike, you'll reach Wilderness Peak. This section involves a significant portion of the elevation gain, so be prepared for a challenging climb. The peak itself is a tranquil spot, offering limited but peaceful views through the trees. It's an excellent place for a short break before continuing.### Shy Bear Pass Continuing from Wilderness Peak, the trail descends slightly before reaching Shy Bear Pass at approximately 5 km (3.1 miles). This area is a junction for several trails within the park, so ensure you follow the signs for the Long View Peak Loop. Shy Bear Pass is known for its lush undergrowth and the occasional sighting of local wildlife, including deer and various bird species.### Long View Peak The ascent to Long View Peak is gradual but steady, covering the next 2 km (1.2 miles).
