The Pinnacles Track (Kauaeranga Kauri Trail) is located within the Coromandel Forest Park in the Coromandel region in the North Island of New Zealand. It’s a 12 km route through a lush mountain landscape to reach the Pinnacles Hut - New Zealand’s largest backcountry DOC huts. It can be completed in a day but this track is one of the most popular overnight treks, with trampers staying the 80-bed hut so they can take in the breath-taking landscape at sunset or sunrise. Trampers should expect plenty of stairs and a section of ladders to reach the peak of The Pinnacles whilst the walk to the Pinnacles Hut is less steep and beautiful in its own right for those less keen on the climbing. From the Pinnacles Hut you are rewarded with 360-degree views over the Coromandel Peninsula, and you can see views of Billygoat Falls at 180m high, from the Billygoat Landing. Accommodation in the hut must be pre-booked and facilities include bunks, mattresses, cold showers (if tanks are full from rain), non-flush toilets, solar lighting, gas cookers and limited water so be prepared. Trampers must bring food and cooking utensils. There is also a warden at the hut at all times.
