The beautifully varied 61 km Hump Ridge Track Circuit is located in the Fiordland National Park, within the Tuatapere area of the Fiordland region on the south coast of New Zealand. Taking in spectacular beaches, forest track and mountain tops along the way, this long-distance tramping route was born from a unique partnership between the Tuatapere community and DOC and is operated by a Charitable Trust. Just one highlight is the stunning Hump Ridge range, as the track meanders through limestone tors on a boardwalk and rewards with far-reaching 360-degree views to the south-west of Fiordland, out to the ocean and Stewart Island. This track is the only one in Fiordland that offers a range of ‘premium’ facilities and walking packages for visitors including accommodation in private lodges which have a shop, a licensed bar, and offer free porridge and brown sugar each morning. These private backcountry lodges wheelchair accessible, and fully stocked with cooking equipment, crockery and utensils and gas cookers for trampers’ use; flush toilets, solar lighting and gas heating. The first, Okaka Lodge at almost 1000 m marks the highest point on the route, whilst Port Craig Lodge can be found at sea level, giving trampers an opportunity to spot the rare Hectors dolphins and jump into the Southern Ocean after a day of walking. Other package options include full guided walks and a luxury option. Book: https://www.humpridgetrack.co.nz/pages/hump-ridge-track-prime/ Based on our data, the trail is graded as medium.
