The 8 km Massey Cossey Loop Track is located near Hunua, Auckland, New Zealand, and is a medium rated looped walk that takes in the beautiful Hunua Falls, within the Hunua Ranges Regional Park. One the park’s most popular and most spectacular hikes, highlights include its undulating track with beautiful views across the native bushland, the Hunua Falls and the Cossey Dam. The loop can be walked in either direction, but many recommend walking it anti-clockwise, which takes on lots of stairs but is less steep I this direction and it means the water crossing is at the end of the trail, (the water is usually very low). Car parking can be found at Hunua Falls, where there are toilets and a Kauri dieback cleaning station, which visitors are required to use before walking within the park. There are more toilets available at the Cossey Dam. A relative level of fitness is required, and whilst the trail is well-maintained and mostly gravel track, the stairs and steeper parts, river crossing, and undulating sections mean it is not recommended for buggies or wheelchairs. Dogs are permitted in the park but there are prohibited within certain exclusive areas which include near the water supply dams (50 metres from the water), the picnic areas at Hunua Falls and any campgrounds, so must be kept on a leash.
