One of the most popular trails on the Port Hills; it gets very busy! The best time to go to avoid the summer crowds is early in the morning or late afternoon. A 7 km out and back back trail used by hikers, bikers and runners, there are great views from the top, looking out over Lyttelton Harbour, Pegasus Bay and Canterbury Plains. Beginning at Rapaki Road, there is usually on road parking available. The trail climbs quite steeply towards the end and is rated as moderate, for information on how we grade trails, please click here. It takes around an hour to get to the top although caution is advised on trail times as this depends on multiple variables. For more info, click here. Dogs are permitted on this trail although they must be kept on a lead. Hut booking required on this trail, please visit here for more information.
