Worth the climb, the Rawson Falls Walk is a steep 2 mi out-and-back trail that starts and ends at the Boorganna picnic area in the Boorganna Nature Reserve, New South Wales. Boasting an abundance of birdlife and wildlife it’s the second oldest nature reserve in the state and a favourite amongst birdwatchers with more than 85 species – take in their song as you walk through this protected area’s majestic forests. With a total elevation gain of 801 ft, this trail is graded as Difficult and is considered to be a fairly rough track, especially after rain when the trail can get muddy and the rocks slippery, but worth the effort for views of the beautiful 40-metre-high Rawson Falls as the trail leads walkers through stunning rainforest and impressive eucalypts; just a couple of the tree species that make up the Boorganna Nature Reserve. Also, check our latest community posts for trail updates. This beautiful trail is usually completed in around 1 hr 30 mins, but many visitors choose to extend their adventure, taking a picnic or stopping at the falls for a dip in the pool at the bottom of the falls. Caution is advised on trail times as this depends on multiple variables. For more info, click here. Boorganna National Park is free to enter, there is a basic long drop toilet at the picnic area and it is always open ‘but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.’ The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) want visitors to be aware that weather in the region can be unpredictable so being prepared for all weather conditions is advised. They also stress that ‘leeches may be encountered in the reserve and around this trail and so long trousers and insect repellent is advised. There are also warnings about ‘stinging trees near the walking track’ and they advise people ‘not to touch the leaves or brush up against the tree.’ Dogs are not allowed in the Boorganna Nature Reserve for the protection and conservation of the park and its wildlife.
