This is a trail that all the family will enjoy. Located in Gibraltar Range National Park, near Moogem in NSW, it is a short, two-mile loop track beginning from Boundary Falls picnic area and journeys around the campground and through open forest to the valley edge of Boundary Creek. Boundary Falls are used to marking the boundary between two adjoining cattle stations and there are stairs down to the bottom of Boundary Falls. Around the campground, there are scattered remnants of the old sawmill which was once here. Although eucalyptus trees dominate in the forest, there are also grass trees, wattles (a type of acacia) and tree ferns. At the end of the track, there is a great lookout over Boundary Creek and the Lyrebird Waterfall. As the name advocates, Lyrebirds inhabit this area, so keep a lookout for these amazing birds that are often heard rather than seen. Capable of imitating practically any sound; they have been heard to mimic chainsaws and trains! They live on the forest floor, searching for grubs and insects and only fly when in danger. Wedge-tailed eagles are often seen around here as well, usually soaring up above so take some binoculars. To get there, take the Gwydir Highway from Glen Innes (40 miles) or Grafton 62 miles). Park at boundary Falls Picnic area. This track does have some steps, making it unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. There are toilet facilities at the picnic area.Dogs are not permitted in the National Park, and smoking here is not allowed. Open all year, the most popular time to visit is springtime when the park’s wildflowers bloom, the vibrant Gibraltar Waratah can be found here.
