Herthasee, Herthabuche, Koenigsstuhl and Victoria-Sicht via Wanderweg zum Königsstuhl

Trail Overview

The trail begins near the Königsstuhl National Park Centre, a significant landmark in the Jasmund National Park. Herthasee and Herthabuche

About 1 km (0.6 miles) into the hike, you'll reach Herthasee, a small, tranquil lake surrounded by dense forest. This lake is steeped in local legend, believed to be the site of ancient Germanic rituals. Nearby, you'll find the Herthabuche, an ancient beech tree that adds to the mystical ambiance of the area. Koenigsstuhl

Continuing for another 2 km (1.2 miles), you'll arrive at the Koenigsstuhl, or "King's Chair," one of the most famous chalk cliffs in the region. Standing at 118 meters (387 feet) above sea level, this viewpoint offers breathtaking vistas of the Baltic Sea. The climb to this point is gradual but steady, so be prepared for a bit of a workout. The Koenigsstuhl has historical significance as well, having been a popular spot for artists and poets, including the famous painter Caspar David Friedrich.

Victoria-Sicht

From Koenigsstuhl, the trail leads you to Victoria-Sicht, another stunning viewpoint named after Queen Victoria, who visited the area in the 19th century. This section of the trail is about 1.5 km (0.9 miles) and involves a slight descent. The views from Victoria-Sicht are equally mesmerizing, offering a different perspective of the chalk cliffs and the expansive sea.

Return Loop

The final leg of the hike takes you back through the forest, completing the loop.
